A movement of disciple making disciples

World Mission

Welcome to our world mission area. Here you can find information about activities we are involved in as a church, both directly and in support of other mission agencies.

Our vision for World Mission

We continue as a church to promote opportunities to take part in short, medium and long-term overseas mission as well as exploring ways in which we can church plant or partner with other churches. Our World Mission Team exists to enthuse and encourage the church fellowship to achieve these aims. We have been particularly encouraged in recent years by the number of members, especially young people, going overseas to serve in short term mission and more recently others offering themselves for longer term service. The continuing development of our partnership with the church in Malawi has been a great blessing to the whole church – starting in 2007 with our first team visit, teams have gone out every year since to help plant new village churches (now numbering about 45 and growing!), support our sponsored students, monitor our microloan scheme and generally give other encouragement and support. Please see the separate pages for a fuller picture of our Malawi partnership.

2015 – 2016

During the past twelve months we have had church teams going out to Malawi and also to Russia, working with the Christian charity Love Russia. Also a number of younger people have been abroad on short term mission with organisations like YWAM and Elim International Ministries. Two members are also now serving longer term, one working as a lecturer in the Far East and the other on a two year assignment with YWAM in New Zealand – and two further members of the church are on the home staff of Operation Mobilisation.

We believe that St Peter’s belongs to the world wide body of Christ and therefore seek to break down barriers of race and nationality whilst celebrating each other’s uniqueness in God’s eyes.

St Peter’s has a network of prayer and financial support for several areas of mission, mission workers and organisations around the globe. We especially support BMS World Mission through a link with the Diamond family working in India.

Others include:

St Peter’s has a number of small groups which meet for fellowship, prayer and Bible study and, so far as possible, the aim of the Team is to link each group with a specific mission worker or organisation to commit to regular prayer and support and encourage two-way communication.

We have an annual World Mission Sunday in October as well as regular World Mission prayer slots in Sunday services when we pray for our various mission partners. In all these activities we believe in the need to be responsive to God’s guidance, trusting in the power of the Holy Spirit to inspire, embolden and sustain us in furthering God’s commission for His church. As Jesus said to his disciples in Luke 10 v2:

The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the Harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.
