Welcome to our world mission page. Here you can find information about activities we are involved in as a church, both directly and in support of other mission agencies.
Our vision for World Mission
We continue as a church to promote opportunities to be involved in short, medium and long-term overseas mission. Our World Mission Team exists to enthuse and encourage the church fellowship to achieve these aims. We have been particularly encouraged in recent years by the number of members, especially young people, going overseas to serve in short term mission as well as others offering themselves for longer term service.
The continuing development of our partnership with the church in Malawi has been a great blessing to the whole church and in particular to the many members who have been out there as part of one of our teams – starting in 2007 with our first team visit and continuing every year since. Our partnership includes helping to plant new village churches (now numbering about 80 and still growing!), supporting our sponsored students, monitoring our two microloan schemes and generally giving other support and encouragement. Please see the separate Malawi page for a fuller picture of the partnership.
We believe that St Peter’s belongs to the world wide body of Christ and therefore seek to break down barriers of race and nationality whilst celebrating each other’s uniqueness and value in God’s eyes.
St Peter’s has a network of prayer and financial support for various mission workers and agencies around the world. We especially support BMS World Mission and are now looking to link up shortly with a new couple or family.
- Open Doors working with persecuted Christians around the world
- Love Russia providing practical support and encouragement to orphans and the disadvantaged in Russia
- OM (Operation Mobilisation)
- Christian Solidarity Worldwide.
We have an annual World Mission Sunday in June as well as regular prayer slots in Sunday services when we pray for our various mission partners. In all these activities we believe in the need to be responsive to God’s guidance, trusting in the power of the Holy Spirit to inspire, embolden and sustain us in seeking to obey God’s commission to go out into all the world and make disciples. Jesus reminds us in Luke 10 v2:
The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the Harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.
